Makroökonomische Stabilisierungspolitik in Polen und Deutschland seit der Transformations- und Wiedervereinigungsphase
Ryszard Barczyk , Horst Brezinski
AbstractThe policy of macroeconomic stabilization plays a significant role in each economic system. Such activities have also been conducted in the Polish and German economies. The aim of this article is to compare the objectives, instruments and effects of macroeconomic stabilization policies in the Polish economy where transformation processes occurred and in the German economy during the period of reunification. On this basis an attempt is made to examine the most important determinants of those policies. The article consists of three parts. The first one contains a comparative analysis of stabilization policies. This analysis includes the aims, instruments applied and the mechanism of their operation in each of the analyzed countries. The second part discusses factors influencing the effects of stabilization measures implemented in Poland and in Germany. It concerns political-institutional factors determining the functioning of those economies and conditions resulting from transformation processes and reunification. The last part presents the most important real and nominal effects (dynamics of economic growth, situation on the labour market, inflation) which show to what extent the stabilization aims were achieved in both countries. There is one fundamental difference in the stabilization policy of both countries. This concerns the exchange rate policy.
