Valuation of plant biological assets - fair value versus historical cost
AbstractThe object of the present work is to point the reader’s attention to the issue of valuation of plant biological assets (growing crops), and to provide an answer to the question of the most adequate method for valuating agricultural activities – the fair value or the historical cost. The paper presents results of empirical research concerning valuation of growing crops with methods of historic cost and income value. The empirical research was conducted on the basis of valuation of a 1 hectare plantations of wheat and rape as of 30.06.2017. The research conducted, together with critical analysis of available subject literature proved that the valuation with use of methods based on fair value reflects the value of growing crops in a more adequate way. Nevertheless one should remember that this valuation does not include the meteorological risk connected with agricultural activities.
