Agricultural resources in regions of the European Union (attempt to assess the differences and consistency)

Marta Guth , Katarzyna Smędzik-Ambroży

The aim of the article was to answer the question of whether can man distinguish areas with similar resource conditions for agricultural production in the European Union. It was hypothesized that the European Union is characterized by considerable heterogeneity of resource conditions of agriculture, but there can be areas, which are clusters of the EU regions with similar conditions for agricultural production, distinguished. There was cluster a nalysis, using the Ward method and Euclidean distance , performed. As a result, it identified three clusters of the EU regions significantly different from each other in terms of land, capital and labor resources in representative farms. Time range covered the years 2007 - 2013, spatial scope - various regions of the EU, and the subjective range concentrated on representative farms of those regions. In the conclusion of performed analysis the hy pothesis that the EU is characterized by considerable heterogeneity conditions of agricultural resources, but there can be areas, where c onditions are similar distinguished, has been positively verified.
